  1. 1. Who gets the blame?

    • It was a suicide made to look like a murder as a final laugh on his friends and enemies.

    • The niece was the beneficiary, and probably suffered from long-term abuse.

    • One or more of the Merry Gang did it and does not want the culprit(s) discovered.

    • Chatham had the motive, anger, opportunity, and was the first to question what evidence FitzJames found.

    • The servants acted odd, I bet they were guilty.

    • Langdon. With all the spirits communicating at Windsor, is it a coincidence that everyone has been mentioning his name the whole time?

    • Darlene. She knows voodoo. She knows Merriweather raped her cousin Heather. She is known to have stabbed Killigrew and wants to kill another gentleman at court. She seems to know a lot about the Romani.

    • Eleanor Bayning. A coincidence that she shows up at court at the same time he is murdered? What do we *really* know about her background? Also, it is always the most innocent person in any murder mystery that is the true culprit.

    • Douglas FitzJames. He was Heather's lover. He disappeared mysteriously from court just prior, claiming the King wanted him to do something. Yeah right. Ask the King. Under the school of "it takes one to know one" he must be the murderer. This investigation is but a sham to allow him to take charge and prevent the real story coming forth.

    • Duncan Melville. Did his wife die of disease ... or was it Merriweather? He seems so heartbroken that maybe he has something guilty he is trying to hide. It might have even been a task he undertook to join the Free Masons. You know how secretive that group is.

    • The Earl of Avon. He always had a fancy for artwork and knew the victim.

    • A noble at Windsor who owed money to the victim and waited until he was separated from most of his servants.

    • The Italians. He came back from overseas? They happen to show up, dealing in diamonds and very wealthy?

    • The Earl of Northhampton. Chatham thinks him a murderer. Why not Merriweather too?

I'll be honest, there's a fairly strong, albeit circumstantial, case to be made against Chatham. He's comfortable with violence, didn't like Merriweather, has sisters that will be debuting in the not-too-distant future, and conveniently spent the whole day prior to the body being discovered riding deep in the Great Park, which means that his actual whereabouts can't be verified and he has no alibi. He fits the likely profile of the murderer.
