Character Sheet

Here is our character sheet that you will submit to be reviewed by the moderators. We refer to our characters a PCs here (Player characters) and Historical characters & other characters played by mods as NPCs (Non-Player Character). Please note that if you are a player who has played with us before but it making a new character, our character sheet has changed a lot. Our game system has also simplified and been updated and there are no more compendiums, wardrobes, or ledgers. Please make sure you are only using the character sheet below and that you have read all the other topics in the Setting and Game Information Forum before filling out your application.

Please note that right now, we are not accepting:

Beauty is not available for females. Sword-fighting and horses is unavailable for males as things to be better than average at. We have more than one character falling into those categories and try to keep a good balance of different abilities within our member PCs. Underused things to be good at are things like cross-bow/bow/archery, hunting, knives, hand to hand/wrestling, dancing, sports like tennis/boules/pell mell, academic domains like science, art, music for males, etc.

Character Profile (PUBLIC)

Character Name:

Title:

Estate Name: (One Family Seat is standard for gentry & peers)

Nationality:

Age:

Gender:

Eye Colour:

Hair Colour:

Avatar/playby:

The First Impression & Physical Appearance:

How do others see your character? Things you could include:

  • You cannot have a "beautiful" or "handsome" character without taking it as a benefit. The same goes for adjectives that are similar.

  • Describe your character's looks, anything above average height for the time is a minor benefit (anything greater than 5'8'' for males, or 5'7" or greater for females)

  • Describe what others might notice in behaviour etc.

  • Remember to fit it with your background story, and don't create the perfect character. Beauty is a benefit and one that we are currently not accepting on incoming character sheets.

Personality:

Wealth Level :

Impoverished, average, or above average (above average is a benefit, impoverished is a challenge)

For a more in-depth explanation of wealth levels, please see the Getting Started Forum

Housing:

St Marks for average wealth, then Red Lion Inn or Dorchester House (ladies only) for anything above average

Benefits & Challenges

Points are a tool we ask players to use for character design to help them make a balanced character. The mods balance a character not just by the points assigned but by the way the narrative and backstory reads with the points. For example, your scenario may be worth more or less points depending on how you have it written. That is where the mods come in when they review your application! Simply do your best to use the points as a jumping point to making a balanced character and then we will help you with the rest!

Usually the maximum amount of points we advise is 2 or 3 for each category for a first character, although you can takemore or less than that if you wish. The important thing is that the Benefits and Challenges, when added together, balance out at zero. For second characters, we do allow more points and creativity in the background. We do not allow Above Average Wealth, Rank (Earl/Countess), & Beauty together!

Anything that is beyond typical or average for your rank, wealth, & station in life would be generally considered some form of benefit even if it's not listed. Anything beyond what would be typical for the background you've written would also be considered a benefit. Keep those things in mind 😄

CHALLENGES

Origin/Background

Explain/integrate the above in a narrative story, which makes realistic historical sense and is balanced. This part should make us excited to be writing with you due to the originality and quality of your ideas and serves as a writing example.

If you have a serious secret that you don't want other players to know, please PM it to Defiance

Things you could also include:

  • one or two things your character is good at
  • one or two things your character is bad at

  • all other things your character is assumed to be average for their rank

  • events that shaped the life of your character

  • how any people involved in your benefits/challenges

  • Important background characters/family (bulletpoint style, only a few, no exhaustive histories)

Goals

What are some things your character would like to do in the game?

Please copy the empty sheet below. Keep in mind not to use ellipses or other such characters in your application as the board will not recognize them. This can be a problem in Microsoft Word ;)
