The demonstration caused the flaccid to become less so. Henry began to relax somewhat as his instrument began to show life. It did not snap to attention. Rather, it acted like a sleepy child rising from a slumber.

"Aha," he exclaimed. "Your charm is strong." The newness and danger added to the thrill. He moved to recommence but paused when he heard voices in the hallway outside. His manservant seemed to shoo away another potential interloper. He knew that this round would be a long one and he debated the wisdom, much as she did. "Tuesday then. Let us be prudent now," he suggested, with a look to see if she agreed.

He seemed to be ready for her again and Sophia stepped aside so that he could sit down this time. In truth, she didn't want to wait until Tuesday to soar to the heights of pleasure with him once more. However, her heart began to beat frantically when she heard voices in the corridor, and Henry stopped in his tracks. His manservant succeeded in turning the intruder away, but she was afraid that he would eventually be pushed aside and they would be found alone together.

The handsome Earl reconsidered their plans for a third round. Sophia sighed but she did not protest. “Your servant should have chosen a less popular location,” she jested. “Tuesday it will be then. I will count every minute until we are together again. Shall I leave first with your manservant, since he escorted me here?”

Moving toward him, she lifted up her arms so that he would bend toward her for a kiss. “Or would you rather me follow a few minutes after you depart?”

On a night like this there were no better venues to find some privacy. Henry was glad to have found this store room so readily. It had cost a pretty coin but was worth it certainly. "We were lucky to find such a place on short notice," he replied. He had arranged another place at the top of a stairway, but it was needed no longer.

Now that he thought on it, maybe a delay until Tuesday was better. It would create more excitement in anticipation. "As for me, I am simpler. I will count every hour in the absence. It saves my math skills," he chuckled.

"I will leave first to help clear the way and avoid your bodyguard. If someone is seen leaving when no one else is in the store room, it should be you. My servant will stay behind and open the door when he sees only a few servants about."

Pulling up his breeches and clasping them, he bent in to give Sophia a luxurious kiss. "Soon my love." With that, he knocked on the door once and awaited the countersign before opening it. He blew a kiss and then the door was closed and the Earl of Arundel was gone.

“I'm not complaining,” Sophia said and then chuckled. “Well, maybe a little. I just wish we had more time together tonight.” Even if they had found a hidden bedroom that nobody knew existed, they wouldn't have been able to spend the entire evening with each other. Esteban would expect her to join him in the ballroom eventually. Idly, she wondered if he had arrived yet. She rather hoped that he he would linger a bit with Lord Chichester after dinner and she would already be in the ballroom when he entered.

“Perhaps I should count every second then,” she laughed. “My math skills could use some exercise.”

It seemed to Sophia that he had already planned their departure. He had probably done this sort of thing before, but hopefully his previous flings had been just that … flings … and she meant much more to him than his former lovers.

She melted into his kiss, returning it with sweetness and passion. “Yes, soon,” she echoed, smiling as he blew her a kiss before walking out the door. The storeroom seemed so empty now without him. Pulling out her vial of perfume, she dabbed it on her throat, her wrists, and even on her thighs. It was no secret that she had found a place to rest her (supposedly) injured ankle. Any refined young lady would find the smell of a storage room offensive, so it wouldn't be odd that her signature scent of vanilla and roses hovered about on the air.

Tucking the bottle back into her petticoat, she waited for Henry's manservant to open the door and escort her back to the drawing room, or at least point her in the right direction.

Henry laughed at her parting words, seeming in good spirits. It was but five minutes before Arundel's servant opened the door. "The way is clear m'lady," he spoke softly, offering her his arm to make it evident to anyone spying them that he was assisting an injured lady.

The hallway had a few servants. They did not seem to pay the couple much attention. There appeared to be no courtiers nearby, even though there was a roar of laughter and noise from the Central Drawing Room nearby. Sophia was now free to return to the ball or visit anywhere else.

Sophia was ready when Henry's manservant opened the door. Her clothing had been adjusted as had the wreath of beaded flowers on her head. Nodding her thanks, she took his arm and let him lead her down the corridor. She didn't even limp this time, for the 'rest' had supposedly helped her ankle immensely. Luckily, there were no courtiers roaming around the servants' hallway who might recognize her.

When they reached the Central Drawing Room, from which came a cacophony of noise, she asked the servant to open the door and she strolled back inside. After pausing for a moment to watch the activity around her, she went to the door, retrieved her fur cloak, and then stepped out into the hallway. That cloak had been hanging in plain view of the servants gathered outside so that Karl would think she had been engaged in the games taking place there.

Heedless as to whether her bodyguard followed or not, she took off in the direction of the Banquet Hall, a cheerful bounce to her step.
