The note had no particular identifying marks upon it, save for the handwriting itself, rounded and almost childish, with the backwards slope of a left-handed writer. It was terribly similar to that on a note which had accompanied a fox fur cape earlier in the season.

Meet hint the George, ainly you,

On the een of January two.

Far better than sleep

I've a promise to keep

That is, if you've n'one else to do.

The note was accompanied, perhaps somewhat oddly, by a thick woolen blanket.

It was from Douglas, and a love poem even, rhyming and so charming as he always was. He did not need to say the L word exactly for her to know his sweet sentiments originated in his large heart.

Nicolette beamed - she had worried he'd forgot.

Wondering if she should prepare herself some way, she headed to Louis Library to see if he had any books on the stars.
