1300 BC-Ancient Smyrna

The sea was calm and clear this early in the morning, which was why it was Hekaterine's favorite time to go for a swim. Just her, the fish below and the sky above. No duties, no fight practice, no raid training. Just blessed silence. She knew she'd have to go back soon. The Amazons weren't ones to allow for relaxation. And as the eldest daughter of the Queen's Commander, it was her duty to be not just as good as her mother, but better. The sun was lightening the sky to the east, so she swam back to where the sand met her toes and began to walk back to shore. With each step, more and more of her body was revealed. Her hair was pulled over one shoulder as she made to ring out the salt water. Once she was content with what she could get out, she would braid it and then make certain it was attached tightly to her head, to keep it from being grabbed in battle.

Her clothes, an easy to don shift of strong, pliable leather, lay across a nearby rock, with her sword, daggers, bow and arrows, and boots of a similar material as her shift. A course cloth would be used to dry her skin before donning, as there was nothing worse than wet skin against leather. She wasn't paying the closest attention as she made her way to shore, lost in thought and certain of her solitude. For who would ever brave enough or stupid enough to wander into the Amazon's peninsula?

Nya walked barefoot along the shore, all at peace, with not a possession in the world... save the linen robe that hung loosely from her shoulders that spoke of a civilized past.

She'd been walking along the coast for some days now. She was weak, but meditation took her mind away from the care of the flesh; she drank the sun and breathed the air, and it was enough.

The waves were a slowly rumbling percussion, while the gulls above were an irregular melody. Now and then she spied a wet stone that particularly pleased her, and she'd stop to admire it, and when satisfied she'd continue on, leaving it where nature had placed it.

Here on the shoreline she came upon something a bit different. Leather, bow and arrows. Nya's brow creased of the violent goods, they were not the first vision that had come to her during her walk of melete. Crouching down she poked at the sword, then to gasp as a stripe of blood appeared upon her finger, it was placed instinctively to her lips... as eyes turned to the surf and saw a figure emerging.

Hekaterine saw the woman sidle up to her weapons, causing her to growl low in her throat at the threat. But obviously she wasn't familiar with weapons as the nitwit went and cut herself. "Never handle a weapon unless you're prepared to use it," she said as she stalked, naked, towards the strange woman and her belongings. "Who are you and what are you doing here?," she asked the gowned stranger. Not a very practical outfit. That linen wouldn't protect against the wind, much less an arrow or sword swipe. Obviously not from around here? She reached for her clothing and weapons, attempting to move them away from the stranger.

Nya looked at the woman who spoke in some unfamiliar language to her. The sun caught at water droplets on her skin, glinting, she seemed at once unearthly and yet primal as wall. A slow smile formed on Nya's face, and she reached to pick up the chamois-like leather, and arising from her crouch passed it to the other woman.

"I am Nya," she said in her own language.

Hekaterina pulled her clothes from the strange woman's hands and then, quick as a snake, pulled her weapons to her as well. She didn't need clothes to be deadly, though the other woman didn't seem to pose any danger. She uttered some strange words, causing Kat to look at her with a puzzled expression, which quickly cleared. Kat was often tasked with questioning any captives and had learned several languages in her position as beta to the Queen's Commander. She recognized, after a moment, the woman's words as they were similar to the ones used by the Queen's most recent male slave. Switching to the other woman's tongue, she asked, "What are you doing wandering the shores?" She strapped her sword to her body and finished placing all her daggers in their sheaths, ready to pull any of her blades should the other woman attempt attack.

The clothing was snatched from her hands by this savage woman, and Nya's eyes widened, sensing danger she backed away. Then the woman spoke a broken version of her own language, the question innocent enough, if not accompanied by the multitude of weapons she'd just strapped to sunbronzed skin.

For a moment the cares of physical revisited Nya, for a moment she felt concerned for things of this earth. Letting her eyelids slip shut she focused upon the warmth of the sun falling on her cheek, and drew soft breaths of the salty air, hearing the roll of waves, and feeling the grains of sand underfoot. When her eyes reopened calm and serenity were re-established...

"I am upon a walk of meditation," she smiled to the woman of war, and extended her hand palm upwards, "my steps have brought me to you, daughter of the sea."

A walk of meditation? What was this? It was foolishness, that's what it was. "Obviously it has brought you to me so that I might warn you of the danger you approach. You tread in the lands of the Amazons," she said as she took quick stock of their surroundings. It was surprising the woman hadn't been found before. Somehow she had slipped past a patrol to make it to this strip of sand. "You are a long way from your people. Did you get lost in your walk?" If there were others nearby, they would be in serious danger, if not already found. But no warring cry had gone up yet, so perhaps there was time to save them.

"Ahh..." The woman lifted her hands to her face, then tipping them away from herself as she tilted her head to the heavens above in a religious gesture, "Praise to the gods for their wisdom."

Calm and serene was back upon the out of place visitor, who looked back to Hekaterina with a soft chuckle. "Only by becoming lost can we find ourselves, only by discarding all possessions, do we discover how abundant our life is." she looked again at the warrior-ess, a woman who seemed her opposite in so many ways. "Here is where I need to be." she met Heka's eyes, sensing her tensions, and asked gently, "Friend, what is troubling your spirit?"
