Charles Rex
John Manners Full Name: John Manners Nationality: English Title: Baron Roos (courtesy) Estate Name: Belvoir Manor, Leicestershire Age: 39 (b. 1638) Gender: Male Eye Color: Hazel Hair Color: Light Brown Marital Status: Married Physical Attributes Apart from his hazel eyes and light brown curls Lord Roos was a very nondescript man. Personality If the Marquess of Dorchester is to be believed, the man is a notorious rakehell, debaucher, and all around villain in his relations with the female sex. Yet he has managed to keep the good opinion of the King. Background Born the only son and the seventh surviving child of John Manners and Frances Montagu, the Earl and Countess of Rutland, he has had a notorious marital history that has provided much grist for the gossip mills. He married firstly Anne Pierrepont, daughter of Henry Pierrepont, the Marquess of Dorchester, on 15 July 1658. The marriage was of short and scandalous duration. John obtained a "[[Divorce|separation from bed and board]]" by a private Act of Parliament, in 1663, citing her adulterous behaviour, but not before he and the Marquess had engaged in a mudslinging contest in a series of published letters. Knowing without doubt that Anne's second child was not his, John then sought a private Act of Parliament to bastardize all of Anne's children born since 1659, and granting him permission to remarry, in 1670, so that he might get a legitimate heir. It was a financially costly and highly scandalous set of proceedings. John remarried, on 10 November 1671, to Diana Bruce, daughter of Robert Bruce, Earl of Elgin. Diana died in childbed, in July 1672. John married a third time, to Catherine Wriothesley Noel, the daughter of Baptist Noel, Viscount Campden, on 8 January 1673, and is expecting their first child in Autumn 1676. John has been the Member of Parliament for Leicestershire since 1661. Although he shows little enthusiasm for the position, he is known to sympathize with the Whigs. Cousin to Susanna Nesbitt.
