John Bramston

Character Name: John Bramston

Title: Earl of Maldon

Estate Name: Maldon Castle

Nationality: English

Age: 21 (b. 1656)

Gender: Male

Eye Colour: Blue

Hair Colour: Chestnut Brown

Marital Status: Single, never married

Physical Attributes

John limps, hunches, shakes, shivers, and stammers. He comes together into a somewhat pathetic package of a man, lacking a pleasing visage. There is no actual deformity, though, and he’d look quite normal if only he wasn’t twitching, limping, or dealing with a running nose so often. He dresses a bit on the plainer side, often with materials of good construction, since he is necessarily a bit clumsy and more than one shirt has been ruined by a shaking hand spilling something on himself.

Season VIII

John has taken to wearing blond periwigs this season.

Personality

In person, he can come across as slow or a fool due to his stutter and difficulty speaking. He has trouble communicating due to his impediment, though it never stops him from trying. Those actually willing to listen can find an intelligent man of good humor and witty enough, though with great trouble delivering good timing. Unfortunately, working through his stammering can be a task unto itself.

Background

John's father passed when he was just twelve, and so he inherited the family title as a minor. He passed into the care of his mother, and, when she passed five years later, reverted to the Crown. He along with his siblings were redeemed by the Cavendishes, who took the family as wards until John reached his majority.

He attended Oxford, but was only able to take a degree due to special considerations taken for his speech impediment.

Parents

  • Father: William Bramston, 2nd Earl of Maldon (d. 1668)
  • Mother: Mary Bramston, Countess of Maldon (d. 1673)

Siblings

  • Catherine Bramston (b. 1658)
  • Isaac Bramston (b. 1660)
  • Abigail Bramston (b. 1662)

Reputation

Season VII

This young earl is a sadly afflicted deep thinker. A cousin of a junior branch of the Cavendishes, this amusing and erudite, clever and thoughtful, young gentleman is gaining the hearts of sympathetic young ladies left and right.
