Diana Butler

Full Name: Diana Liesl Butler (nee Howard)

Nationality: English

Title: Countess of Gowran, Viscountess Clonmore, Baroness Aghrim

Age:  January 13, 1658 (20)

Gender: Female

Eye Color: Grey

Hair Color: Blond

Height: 5’6”

Marital Status: Married

Physical Attributes: Stately and stunning, Diana is the picture of her famed beauty Austrian mother in her youth.  Crowned by the same mass of golden blonde hair and startling grey eyes, she’s well aware of her beauty and that it was one of her greatest assets as a penniless orphan at court.

First Impressions:  Some people radiate warmth and happiness, but Diana isn’t one of them.  Her demeanor is silent and observant, but behind her reserved exterior lies an active mind that is constantly going.  She occasionally gives the impression of being annoyed or in the very least put out when she’s not actually expressing any of those emotions.  On a little closer inspection, the puckish glint in her luminous eyes or the faint yet sardonic lift of the corner of her mouth says that she is probably secretly laughing at you.

Background

Parents

Father: Charles Frederick Howard - 2nd Earl of Varington (believed to be deceased)

Mother: Eleanor Liesl Howard (nee: von Riefel) - Daughter of the Austrian Baron (Freiherr) von Riefel (deceased)

At the age of five and shortly after her mother’s death, Diana and her father traveled to the Indies partly to satisfy her father’s need for adventure and partly because of the promises of fortunes to be made.  Her childhood was rather unorthodox but allowed her to develop a worldly sense of understanding from an early age being so far away from normalcy.

Growing up, she found she preferred the pursuits that required movement… they were an outlet for her emotions that rarely came out.   After an attack on her person, she learned to wield a dagger with great skill and ability.

At eighteen on the sort of whim that had brought them to the Indies, her father decided it was time to return to England.  Oblivious to how much her father had spent on his travels and business investments here, Diana agreed to return with their steward and servants to help prepare the estate for her father who would be following her shortly afterward.  Except, he never returned.  His ship had vanished and presumed dead.  To add to her miseries, she learned she wasn’t simply an orphan but now a penniless orphan, dependent upon the handouts of the cousins she’d never known very well,  the Duke of Norfolk.

Placed under the guardianship of her cousin, Henry Howard Sr., Duke of Norfolk, till her marriage, Diana arrived at court and found a surprising alliance with the family.
