Blackguard
The castle was alive with a multitude of visitors; yet, not all visitors had come to celebrate the impending marriage of the King. Other forces with weighty plans were at work. It was in a forgotten storeroom in the bowels of the castle that five men met. There was no illumination nearby, the plotters preferring total darkness. The passages in the dark had been memorized. "The martyr has arrived in the castle," intoned a male voice, deep and rich with gravity. "It is God's will," came another man's voice, revealing a youthful tenor. "And the Holy Father's," came a whisper with a foreign accent. Then came a prayer in Latin, followed by a quote from Luke 11:50-51. "That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation." It was agreed that required blood would be spilled this very evening. A plan for escape had been memorized; but, not everyone expected to leave the castle under cloak of secrecy.
